The Teaching Awards fellows' weekend 2010

The fellows’ weekend is held in honour of all the Teaching Awards 2010 fellows.

All Teaching Award winners from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales as well as finalists for the Ted Wragg Award for Lifetime Achievement, The Henry Winkler Award for Special Needs and the Film My School Competition, will attend this prestigious event which will be held on 30 and 31 October at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel.

The weekend is a very special celebration of all the Teaching Award 2010 fellows and includes a gala dinner as well as the UK Teaching Awards ceremony, held at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and televised by the BBC.

At the UK ceremony the names of the 12 UK Teaching Award winners will be announced and receive the ultimate accolade- a gold Plato.

When will the invitations be sent?
All the invitations will be posted to all guests between the 1 and 7 September.

What is the order of events during the fellows’ weekend and who is able to attend which events?
Saturday 30 October
18.00 – 19.30: Welcome drinks (for all Teaching Awards guests staying at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge)
Sunday 31 October
11.00 – 12.00: Workshop (Teaching Awards 2010 fellows only)
12.00 – 13.00: 2010 Fellows’ and judges’ lunch (private lunch for Teaching Awards 2010 fellows and judges only)
15.30 – 17.30: UK ceremony (limited places, by ticket only)
19.00 – 12.00: Gala dinner (limited places, by ticket only)

RSVP

How do I RSVP?
To RSVP, simply visit the website address listed with your invitation and complete the online form. Please remember to reply even if you are unable to attend, so that we can re-allocate your places. Following your acceptance, your tickets to the UK ceremony will be sent to you in the week commencing 7 October 2010.

When do I need to RSVP by?
The RSVP deadline is Friday 24 September.

I have lost the RSVP details – can you send me new ones?

Guests and tickets

How many tickets do I have for the UK ceremony at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane?
All Teaching Awards 2010 fellows will have up to 30 tickets each. Please note that all guests must have a ticket to gain entry to the ceremony and tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis

How many tickets do I have for the gala dinner at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge?
Individual 2010 fellows have two places. Sustainable Schools and finalists for the Henry Winkler Award for Special Needs have four places. If your school won the Teaching Award for Outstanding School Team of the year, you will have a total of eight places. There are a limited number of additional tickets for the gala dinner available for Teaching Awards 2010 fellows to purchase at a cost of £80 per head. Please note that these are only available to a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to purchase additional tickets, you can do so when you complete the online RSVP form.

How many places do I have for the workshop?
Individual 2010 fellows have one place. Sustainable Schools, Outstanding School Teams and finalists for the Henry Winkler Award for Special Needs have two places.

May I request extra tickets for the ceremony?
Yes, you may request extra tickets for the ceremony, although any extra tickets are not guaranteed. There is space when you RSVP to indicate how many extra tickets you wish to receive. Please note that these tickets will be allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. If we don’t have the space to offer the extra tickets, we will contact you after 24 September deadline

May I request extra tickets for the gala dinner?
We have a limited number of tickets for the gala dinner available to purchase at a cost of £80 per head. Teaching Awards 2010 fellows can purchase these when via the online RSVP form but please note that these are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.
Any guests staying with you at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge who do not attend the gala dinner will be able to join you for drinks and entertainment in the Westminster Ballroom after the dinner.

When will I receive my tickets?
Tickets will be sent to you during the week commencing 7 October 2010.

I have lost my theatre ticket(s), what do I do?
Don’t worry, we can issue duplicates. Contact Delphine Milne on 0207 776 2342 and she will send you some replacement tickets. If you do not receive replacement tickets before the fellows’ weekend you will be able to collect duplicates from the box office at the theatre before the ceremony or from the welcome desk at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Saturday 30 October.

Will my guests be sitting next to me at the ceremony (2010 fellows only)?
We will automatically seat you and three of your guests together in the stalls. Your additional guests may be seated in another area of the theatre because of the limited number of seats in the stalls, which have to accommodate all the Teaching Awards 2010 fellows. If you request extra tickets, these guests will also be seated in another area of the theatre.

Ceremony

When will the ceremony be broadcast on television?
The UK ceremony will be broadcast on Sunday 31 October at on BBC2 (TBC)

Will I be able to get copies of the televised ceremony?
All Teaching Award 2010 fellows will be sent a DVD copy of the recording of the UK ceremony after the event.

Will help be available during the fellows’ weekend in case I have queries?
Yes, the welcome desk will be open at various times throughout the weekend. This desk will be located opposite the Westminster Ballroom on Level - 3 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge and staffed by the Teaching Awards team.

Accomodation

Who is eligible for complimentary accommodation?
The Teaching Awards will cover two nights’ accommodation (Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 October), including continental breakfast, at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel for all 2010 fellows plus one guest in a double or twin room.
If you are a Sustainable School or Outstanding School Team, the Teaching Awards will cover two nights’ accommodation, with breakfast, for a total of four people, in two rooms (either double or twin rooms only).
Finalists for the Henry Winkler Award for Special Needs and the Film My School Competition are offered two nights’ accommodation, with breakfast, for a total of four people, in two rooms (double or twin rooms only).

How do I book the complimentary accommodation?
Complimentary accommodation is only available for 2010 fellows.
If you are a 2010 fellow, the Teaching Awards will automatically book your accommodation for you once you confirm your attendance via the online RSVP form. You will be able to specify your room preference when you complete your RSVP form.
To book additional guests into the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, making the most of the preferential rates, please book directly with the hotel. Please see below for the preferential rates and how to book extra rooms.
Other guests (for example, judges) are responsible for booking their own accommodation directly with the hotel using the preferential rates.

What are the preferential rates at the hotel for the Teaching Awards guests?
The Teaching Awards’ preferential room rates at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge are for any additional guests or judges wishing to stay over the weekend. There are a limited number of rooms available at these rates, so please book by 30 September to secure these rates. Transport

How do I get to the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge?
The hotel is located at 200 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7UT.
The nearest stations are Waterloo (Northern, Jubilee, Bakerloo and Waterloo and City underground lines, and mainline services) and Westminster (District, Circle and Jubilee underground lines).
The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is accessible from all London airports. The nearest is London City Airport (8 miles).

How do I get to the ceremony from the hotel?
Coaches will be available from 14:15 on Sunday 31 October to transport any guests staying at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge to the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. The last coach will depart from the hotel at 14:45, so please ensure you arrive promptly. The coaches will return to the hotel following the ceremony.
Please note that the coaches are only for guests staying at the hotel and you will require a return ticket, given on check-in in order to travel on the coaches. Other guests attending the ceremony will need to make their own arrangements to and from the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

If I am not staying at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, how do I get to the Theatre Royal for the UK ceremony?

Dress code

What is the dress code for the UK ceremony and gala dinner?
The dress code for the weekend is ‘smart-casual’.
The dress code for the UK ceremony and gala dinner is ‘cocktail’ for ladies (either full or mid-length evening or party wear) and lounge suits for gentlemen (with a shirt and tie).
There will be an opportunity to change between the fellows’ workshop and the UK ceremony.

Workshop

What will the workshop be about?
The fellows’ workshop on Sunday 31 October is an opportunity to meet other 2010 fellows and is intended to be informative and inspirational. A guest speaker will be invited to facilitate the workshop.

Expenses (2010 fellows and UK finalists only)

Who is eligible to have their expenses paid?
The Teaching Awards will cover reasonable travel expenses for all 2010 fellows and the following numbers of guests:

What am I able to claim on the expenses form?
The Teaching Awards will cover only reasonable travel expenses.
Please make your own travel arrangements for the weekend and remember to retain your receipts. Please keep your travel costs to a minimum and use the most cost-effective transport, for example standard class travel. Mileage will be covered at 35p per mile.
